Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
